Day 12’s bifold unfolding of laughs – Betty Boop’s Pre-Code Vanities + Roman Scandals
Betty Boop’s Pre-Code Vanities featured a collection of eight or so Betty Boop toons + a few Screen Songs, all naturally from 1933. You cannot go wrong with any of these Betty offerings, especially the ones that featured Cab Calloway’s voice! And then there was that very special short that introduced pal Popeye The Sailor Man to the world [WATCH!], where Betty pops in wearing very little outside of a lei! Everyone gets leid!!! Boop-boop-be-doo!
We all make mistakes in life. One huge one that we’ve made in thirtyish years of life is never seeing or hearing a single thing that Eddie Cantor had ever done did. But the thing about mistakes is that you can easily correct them! Thank you Roman Scandals!!!! WOW! I had zero idea that Eddie Cantor was JUST as funny as The Marx Bros or The Three Stooges, and probably influenced a generation of comedians. Come to think of it, we see a bit of Cantor in the stylings of Pee-Wee Herman and Chevy Chase, two of our personal modern comedy icons. Scandals finds Cantor time travelling from his Oklahoma town of West Rome to Ancient Rome. You can’t even guess how much hilarity ensues, as Cantor banters his way into trouble with each sandal step. I now need to see EVERY Eddie Cantor movie EVER! Dang, there’s just never enough time in a day, a year, a lifetime!
