The team was formed at the Chicago Hebrew Institute (changed to Jewish Peoples’ Institute (JPI) in 1922) in October 1916. Reportedly there was not another girls team in the city, until Hull House, Christ Church, Sinai Social Center, and the Illinois Athletic Club (the future Brownies) also formed teams. In the first contest of amateur women’s team in Chicago, the Hebrew Institute girls defeated the Hull House girls 25 to 15
