we caught a screening of Michael Curtiz’ 1934 picture British Agent [trailer] (starring Leslie Howard, Kay Francis, Cesar Romero and his amazing mustache) tonight at The Film Society of Lincoln Center’s brand new and beautiful Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center
The film was restored by the Library of Congress. A gentleman from the LoC presented the film, and noted that anywhere from 70-80% of all silent films up until the early 1930s have been lost forever. He also said that some 50-60% of talking films in the following decades are also gone 🙁
